Summary
Swimming is great exercise and a fun way to beat the heat. But before dipping your toes in the water, make sure you know how to stay safe! Whether you plan to take a dunk in the pool or catch waves at the beach, many of the same safety rules apply. Beginners can gear up with life jackets and floatation devices, while swimmers of all levels should follow the buddy system and only swim in spots with adult supervision. Lifeguards are there to help protect you from aquatic hazards. They'll tell you to pay attention to warning flags and to avoid swimming in storms and venturing too far from shore—especially if there are rip currents around. Want to help keep others safe? Even kids can get certified in CPR, or train to be junior lifeguards. Keep these simple tips in mind, and all your trips to pool and beach should go swimmingly!
