Summary
Finding the area of a flat shape can be useful—whether you're painting a wall, or covering your entire floor with piddle pads. Area is the space inside a flat shape, and there are a few ways to calculate it. You can tile the whole surface with unit squares, and then add them up. But for rectangles, the fastest way to measure area is to multiply length times width. Dealing with a funky shape? Decompose it, or break it down, into rectangles. Then find the area of each, and add those up to find the total area. If you've got a puppy, you better act fast—and press "play!"
