Ready for an adventure of a lifetime? Welcome to adventure stories! Like other story genres, adventure stories are defined by their conventions. Those include a hero, a high-stakes mission, and dangerous obstacles that test the hero's strength—both physical and emotional. One of the oldest adventure stories is <i>The Odyssey</i>, an ancient Greek epic poem, packed with monsters, magic, and angry gods. But modern stories, like Gary Paulson's <i>Hatchet</i>, are also adventure stories.
