Theatre Magic
3 episodes
Theatre Magic is a three-part series from Esplanade's Offstage strand that introduces the technical elements of theatre through a friendly mascot named PIP. Each short episode takes up one backstage tool: Lights, Colours, Magic explores how a colour of stage light sets a mood, from red for danger to blue for sadness; Shadow Play turns a single lamp and everyday objects into shadows that grow, shrink, and change how a scene feels; and The Invisible Power of Sound reveals sound designers, soundboards, and Foley effects made from real objects. Every episode names the element on screen, shows it working on a real stage, and ends with a hands-on trick a class can try.
