Alma is a Puerto Rican kid in the Bronx, and each half hour hands her two small social problems to reason through. She learns to share the spotlight when friends say everything is always about her, to help a friend ice skate without embarrassing her, to meet Junior halfway on museum pace, and, after a visit from Justice Sonia Sotomayor, to judge a dispute and umpire a kickball game fairly. Longer specials take the family to Puerto Rico and through a musical or two. Several titles are the American Sign Language cut. Strong for perspective-taking and neighborhood-scale community study.
